BEYOND INDUSTRIAL ARCHEOLOGY

Tracce di cultura industriale.

Questo blog vuole approfondire diverse questioni legate al tema dell’archeologia industriale in Lombardia:

• vecchi edifici in rovina;

• siti del patrimonio industriale, che sono stati riqualificati attraverso una consapevolezza ambientale;

• vecchie fabbriche trasformate in musei.

Ho maturato questo interesse, durante i miei studi presso l’Accademia di Brera di Milano, dove frequento il corso di “Valorizzazione dei beni culturali”.

Appassionata di fotografia, per le differenti sfaccettature che la costituiscono, per una strana alchìmia, di ritorno dalle mie uscite fotografiche, ho spesso ritrovato scatti inerenti all’archeologia industriale.

Il connubio tra le lezioni che frequento e l’interesse fotografico, mi ha fatto riflettere e resa consapevole di una mancata presa di coscienza, di ciò che significa valorizzare ex siti industriali.

Il punto zero della mia ricerca è un recupero delle vecchie aree industriali, in relazione alla ricostruzione di un senso estetico del paesaggio, inteso come “ambiente madre”; lo stesso territorio tanto danneggiato dal modernismo, che ha imposto la rivoluzione industriale.

La mia “recherche” cercherà di documentare sia i luoghi convertiti in spazi per la cultura, sia gli spazi dimenticati, nella speranza che un giorno gli venga restituita la memoria che gli spetta. Userò come supporto alla mia ricerca la Banca Dati Regionale sull’archeologia industriale, progetto che aveva catalogato i beni dal 1982 al 1997. Sarebbe interessante riuscire a documentare attraverso il mio lavoro le differenze degli stessi edifici. Saranno ancora in stato di abbandono, o è presente qualche progetto di riqualificazione?

Iniziare a scrivere e fotografare è il primo mezzo che posso utilizzare per dar voce alla solitudine troppo rumorosa dei siti abbandonati.

 Traces of industrial culture.

This blog aims to analyze different issues linked to the theme of Industrial Archeology in Lombardy:

• Old decaying buildings,

• Industrial heritage sites that have been redeveloped through a planning that includes environmental awareness,

• Old factories which have been converted into museums.

I have developed this interest, during my studies at Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan, where I am currently attending a course called “Promotion of Cultural Heritage”.

I have always been fond of photography, especially because of the different perspectives on reality it can provide. Due to a strange alchemy, every time I came back from my photographic tours, I have discovered shots connected to industrial archeology. This link between the lessons that I am attending and my photographic interest made me realize that there is a general lack of awareness about the revaluation of old industrial areas.

The starting point of my investigation is the recovery of old industrial areas with a view to rebuilding an aesthetic sense of the landscape, understood as “environmental mother”; the same environment which is so corrupted by modernism, brought about by the Industrial Revolution.

My investigation will try to document both the places transformed into sites where culture comes alive and forgotten spaces in the hope that one day the memory will be given back. My source will be the “Banca Dati Regionale sull’archeologia industriale”, a project that documented the cultural heritage from 1982 to 1997. What I would like to do is to document the development of the same buildings through my investigation. Will those ones be in state of abandon or will there be some requalification project?

Writing and taking pictures are the first things I can do to give voice to the very loud solitude of these neglected zones.
